Professional Review and Certification Examination Preparation Course
This in-depth program reviews various aspects of aquatic fitness core knowledge and skills with both theoretical and practical in-pool applications. Intended to prepare candidates for the AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional Certification Examination or update knowledge and performance skills of the experienced aquatic certified professional.
Topic areas reviewed include general exercise applications of anatomy, physiology, movement analysis and physical fitness parameters in addition to various aspects specific to water exercise, such as the aquatic environment, physical laws and properties of water, and equipment. Choreography concerns, leadership skills and programming options are covered to assist the fitness professional with the practical applications of water exercise. Additional related topics include special populations, health screening, injury prevention & water safety, nutrition & weight management, exercise behavior, as well as legal issues pertinent to the aquatic fitness professional.

Aquatic Fitness Professional Certification Examination Information
This 100-question, multiple-choice and true and false written exam is designed to test a standard level of theoretical and practical competence and skill for aquatic fitness professionals.
Before taking the Aquatic Fitness Professional Certification Examination, AEA highly recommends that all candidates, regardless of educational background, have a minimum of 6 months practical teaching experience in aquatic exercise combined with minimum of 6-8 weeks advance study using the AEA Fitness Professional Manual and study objectives.

Certification Examination Preparation Course
This program is offered as a module to the AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional review course and is offered only to current AEA Certified Fitness Instructors and/or AEA Certified Fitness Professionals.
This course is entirely focused on deep water training principles. The review is intended to prepare candidates for the Aquatic Fitness Professional Deep Module Certification Examination. This review is also recommended for the experienced aquatic certified professional to update knowledge and performance skills necessary for designing and leading programs in the deep water environment.
Learn theoretical and practical applications for deep water training programs for the general population. Topics emphasized in the 5-hour review include the following: Technique & Alignment, Body Mechanics, Qualifying Participants, Managing the Environment, Equipment Options, Intensity Alteration, and Programming & Leadership. This course involves lecture and participation in practical training in the pool; a 30-minute break is included in the schedule. (Lunch is not provided.)

Aquatic Circuits & Intervals
Learn how to vary your aquatic class format from steady-state aerobic training to circuits and intervals for continued progress and motivation of your participants. Circuit Training – small group stations as well as instructor guided options – allows you to combine muscular resistance with cardiovascular conditioning to provide an interesting and well-balanced workout in the pool with, or without, equipment. Interval Training, an aerobic format that incorporates alternating segments of work and rest, can be effectively applied to an aquatic setting to challenge the well conditioned, advanced level individual or modified for entry-level participants or special populations.

Deep Water Techniques
Explore ways to maximize pool use by incorporating a variety of deep water training techniques. Learn the latest training formats, review the physiological responses and discuss equipment options suited for suspended vertical training in deep water. Practical application will focus on non-impact aerobic movements, core stabilization, and stretching techniques for all ability levels. In addition, isolated abdominal exercises in a variety of body positions and safe and effective deck instruction will be addressed. “Transitional” programming – water exercise performed in water depths between 4 and 6 feet – will be covered in lecture.

Shallow Water Techniques
This highly interactive program focuses on how to develop safe, effective and enjoyable fitness programming through aerobic and resistance training in shallow water (waist to chest depth). Creative sequencing, smooth transitions and movement variations will help leaders to develop a unique style of choreography / movement progression. Class formats, training schedules and programming options for drag, buoyant and rubberized will allow leaders to reach a variety of ages and abilities. Group exercise and personal training formats alike benefit from hands on application of the physical properties of water and the use of music, leadership skills and safe deck instruction will be covered.

Older Adults & Aquatic Applications
Older Adults comprise the fastest growing segment of the American population and aquatic exercise can help them maintain functional fitness and independent living skills. The Power of Silence
This program will demonstrate the power of non-verbal cuing. Participants will learn various cuing techniques without speaking a word. Participants will also get a chance to practice these techniques. The course will wrap-up with a 35 minute class demonstrating all the techniques that were discussed in the lecture.

Personal Training From the Inside Out
This program will focus on a strength training protocol designed to strengthen the entire body from the core and stabilizers to the larger superficial muscles. We will discuss all three phases of the program from exercises focusing on core training to exercises focusing on multiple muscle groups.
